Queenstown… so real.
Setting the $500 on fire would have been a better use of our money. Or so I bitterly thought to myself after we picked our car up from the mechanic. Repairs to our 1996 Nissan Bluebird had cost us all the money we had allocated for Queenstown adventures, and then some. Despite having lived abroad for months, it was at this time that we started to realize the difference between traveling abroad and actually living abroad.
Traveling is seeing all the things, eating all the food, and taking all the pictures!!!! Essentially, experiencing every experience. But this can only go on for so long before you are totally tapped out. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally. And financially. We would have loved to bungy jump ($195 per person), parasail ($159 per person), and jet boat ($135 per person), but we settled for sitting on the beach and drinking shiners we had we bought off of a friend out of a paper bag. It was real, memorable, and allowed us to keep our car for another few weeks while we saw the rest of the South Island.
